Snaking: The need to quit arguing.

This post really doens't have anything to do with the future of gaming per say, but it does deal with the nonsene of a versatile tactic called "snaking" in Mario Kart DS.

I am a snaker. I like snaking. I like the speed that snaking brings to me and frankly, I have no problem with snaking against anyone. However, the arguments that plagues the GameFAQ's MKDS board needs to quit.

Recently, a lot of snaking and anti-snaking/non-snaker topics have arisen. Mainly because non/anti-snakers feel that the snakers have done them wrong online and they tend to post their opinion in an overtly deragotory way to grab snakers attention. Snakers do the same thing. They see one of these topics and then they will create one of their own overtly slamming the non/anti-snaker in order to cause a riot. This really needs to stop.

Snakers believe that using the technique is okay because Nintendo has placed the technique "purposfully" in the game. Anti/non-snakers believe that snaking is not meant for the game and separates the playing field too much. While these views and all the sub-views are legit in their own respects, these arguments are rooted in one thing: opinion.

The snaker believes, in their opinion, that snaking is wrong. The anti/non-snaker believes, in their opinion, that snaking is wrong. There is always the ethical and moral struggle between the two views and because it is opinion, we need not to try and argue our points. Each person will find a way to keep their own views, even if it means taking a shot at the person themself. All this does is cause division among the board and since the snakers will remain as will the anti/non-snakers, this struggle will continue until the next Mario Kart game.

While the arguments basically stem from the right and wrongness of snaking, we should avoid all topics that address the morality of it. That is completely opinion based and there is far too much grey area to actually find a right and wrong answer. The same goes for the topic of snaking as a skill. While some do believe that snaking is a skill and others don't, we should simply avoid the topics. And when I say "we", I mean snakers and anti/non-snakers alike.

Again, though the defintion of skill is a bit more defined, we have to realize that everyone will keep their opinions. What should we do? Boycott all snaking topics. Whether you agree with them or not is not the question. Just let them die. Let them rot. Once we finally get that straight, we can let the board continue in "normality."

Snaking is discussion of MKDS, but it drives people off and creates division. Snakers, don't outcast the anti/non-snakers. Join in on a non-snaking race with them. Anti/non-snakers, don't bash the snakers. This what they like to do. Try to learn snaking to better understand where we come from. Enough with the nonsense. We need to quit arguing.
